Kolhapur Airport to get a makeover: new terminal, world-class facilities
Considering the huge growth in passenger traffic at Kolhapur Airport, the Airports Authority of India has undertaken redevelopment works of the terminal for increased passenger capacity.
The development project includes the construction of a new terminal, the reinforcement of the existing runway, the extension of the runway, the construction of a new apron and an isolation bay.
Identified for Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) under UDAN scheme (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik), Kolhapur Airport is currently connected to Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai and Tirupati. Recently, the airport aerodrome license was upgraded to 24/7 flight operations.

The new terminal is built on an area of 4000 m² and will be able to accommodate 300 passengers at peak times.
The airport terminal will be equipped with all modern conveniences for passengers with 10 check-in counters. The building will be a four star GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) energy efficient building with sustainability features.
The interiors of the terminal will reflect the art and culture of local culture and heritage. The large arches of the front facade of the new terminal are influenced and derived from arches commonly used in heritage structures such as Maharaja Palace, Bhavani Mandap, Panhala Fort in the city of Kolhapur.
Over 60% of the terminal expansion work is complete and the building will be ready by March 31, 2023. The airside facility upgrade work has been completed.
A new air traffic control tower is also being built to accommodate future traffic growth. Parking lot with a capacity of 110 cars, 10 buses are also part of the development activities.
The airport’s new world-class terminal will improve connectivity with this industrial city, boosting the region’s tourism industry. The increased connectivity will not only create new employment opportunities for the local community, but also access to better educational and medical facilities.
