The volume of inbound and outbound passengers is gradually increasing as the Municipal Government’s Integrated Bus Station (IBT) has resumed 24/7 operations with the de-escalation of Zamboanga City’s quarantine status to alert level 1 from March 1 to 15, 2022.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases placed the city under Alert Level 1 from March 1-15, as cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) continue to decline .

Rafael Derick Evangelista, head of oversight at IBT, said on Tuesday March 8 that the volume of incoming passengers has increased to 1,000, while departure has increased to 1,100 per day from just over 500 travelers previously at the arrival and departure.

“Passenger numbers have increased since we resumed 24/7 operations starting Saturday,” Evangelista said.

Evangelista said they normally serve some 2,500 to 3,000 outbound passengers a day on a normal day, and up to 10,000 a day during the Christmas season and the election period before the Covid-19 pandemic.

But Evangelista said the IBT only served less than 100 outbound passengers with a similar number of inbound passengers during the health pandemic.

Evangelista said they handle a total of 56 inbound and outbound trips per day across eight routes.

They are: Zamboanga-Dipolog, 20 years old; Zamboanga-Pagadien, 25; Zamboanga-Cagayan de Oro, six; Zamboanga-Sirawai, one; Zamboanga-Olutanga, one; Zamboanga-Cebu, one; and Zamboanga-Bacolod via Dumaguete, two.

Evangelista reminded travelers, especially overseas, to always bring their vaccination records.

The local IATF requires inbound travelers from areas with a higher alert level to show a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result upon entering Zamboanga town. (SunStar Zamboanga)
