The Delhi Department of Transportation has granted a one-year extension to rapid transit vehicles (RTVs) in preparation for the Covid-19 pandemic. RTVs are an important part of last mile connectivity in the city. This extension will be valid from January 1 to December 31 of this year, specifies a circular from the transport service.
The move comes after owners and unions of RTV stagecoach minibuses in recent months have made various appeals to the transportation department to increase the validity of permits from 10 years to 15 years, saying these vehicles have not budged. during locking.

The Transportation Department said the demand from RTV minibus owners was considered after taking into account all factors, especially lockdowns imposed due to the pandemic. “The Secretary-Commissioner for Transport is pleased to grant approval for a single extension of the permit for RTV minibuses for only one year,” the circular said.
This extension will however be subject to the condition that the total validity of the license does not extend beyond 11 years and that the vehicle must have a valid certificate of aptitude (COF) to travel on the road. Another condition is that the vehicle must meet all the conditions set out in the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The ministry circular also mentioned that the extension of the permit is “without prejudice to any claim whatsoever for future purposes or any claim concerning the permit which has already completed 11 years”. He added: “Said exemption was granted only taking into account the natural calamity encountered due to COVID-19 as an administrative policy decision.”
About 1,000 RTV minibuses in Delhi offer a last mile connectivity option to commuters between metro stations and residential settlements.
