Cool Cars cruise through Salina

They are there. Some of the most iconic cars in history have arrived in Salina for the 2022 KKOA Leadsled Spectacular Car Show.

Hundreds of classic cars started having fun with a downtown cruise on Thursday night. On a beautiful summer evening, crowds lined the streets to watch cars roar through the city on a ‘sunset cruise’.

Organizer Jerry Titus said the number of pre-registrations for KSAL News was up this year. It anticipates that up to 2,600 classic car entries will be parked under the shade of the trees in Oakdale Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to cars, there will be kiosks, concessions and entertainment throughout the park.

On Friday evening, many cars will be drag racing at the Berkley Family Recreation Area on the track near Markley Road. The “Run What Ya Brung” drags begin at 4:00 a.m. and continue until dusk.

On Saturday evening, a tribute concert to the 50s and 60s will take place at the Eric Stein Stage in Oakdale Park.

Friday at noon there will be a special sale in the park featuring KKOA hot rods, Kustoms and hot rodding projects.

A classic Hollywood star will once again be part of the auto show this year. Cindy Williams will meet and greet fans at the event. Williams starred alongside Ron Howard in the 1973 film “American Graffiti” and further distinguished herself by sharing the small screen with Penny Marshall in the television show “Laverne and Shirley.”

The 2022 Leadsled Spectacular will be held in Oakdale Park this Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9:00 a.m. each day.
