Here are the top five stories from today in Charlotte:
- North Carolina property taxes ranked 13th best in the nation in a recent analysis by the Tax Foundation. The Tax Foundation assessed state and local taxes on real estate and personal property, net worth, and asset transfers to devise a ranking for each state based on how these factors attract business investment. Itâs the tthird straight year that North Carolina has ranked 13th nationally among the best on the East Coast. (The central square)
- Charlotte Plastic Surgery, the cityâs premier plastic surgery practice, has been voted the winner of Charlotte Magazineâs 2022 Best of the Best (BOB) award for Best Plastic Surgery Group. This is the seventh consecutive year the practice has been honored to be recognized by the magazineâs voters. Each year, Charlotte magazine dedicates its May issue to BOB Award winners in all areas of Charlotteâs business, from interior design to catering to hairdressing. (Web PR)
- The North Carolina Local Government Commission recently approved more than $1.5 billion in funding for local government projects across the state. Funding approved is approximately $900 million for infrastructure improvements at the Asheville and Charlotte airports. This total included the approval of a request by the City of Charlotte to issue $425 million in bonds for Charlotte Douglas International Airport for improvements, a new terminal and other construction projects. - Jiggy with the Piggy, an annual festival for barbecue lovers, is coming to Kannapolis very soon! The annual show draws top barbecue cooks from across the country to compete for top prizes, including first place in the Peopleâs Choice Pork Contest. A total of 50 teams from across the United States will cook with bragging rights on the line in one of the largest Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned events. (WCNC.com)
- An accident involving two vehicles and a school bus occurred yesterday morning on Sharonbrook Drive in south Charlotte. The bus was heading towards South Mecklenburg High School when two vehicles rammed it. District officials said 15 students were on the bus at the time of the crash. The students were slightly injured. (WBTV)
